SCULPTURES-TOTEMS OF JEAN-YVES STAFFE
Françoise Hermann, manageress of the Galerie 55 in Brussels, presents for the first time the sculptures-totems of Jean-Yves Staffe.
The artist makes them in extra-pale glass, that usually is reversed for biotechnology, and he uses "fusing”. It’s a very elaborated technical system he learnt at the glass-university in Sars-Poteries (France) during training courses conducted by Udo Zembock. This technique consists in making the fusion of several plates, that integrates sheets of very fine coloured glass-particles and of oxides, that are going to appear in transparency in the density of the sculpture.
So, colors will be an integral part of glass and reveal their whole density. They will explode in structured forms and rise like totems or compose general effects, that ad infinitum can combine in sculptures-installations, to render homage to the Amerindian Hopis.
